Free Choice

It's 2:10 in the morning and I should be finishing homework. But tonight, I define procrastination. All I been doing for the past three hours was watching J-dramas (japanese dramas) online, which are very addicting. At first I was skeptical about watching foreign english subtitled dramas but now i'm so used to it and it doesn't even bother me. The Japanese focus more so on audience than American dramas. American dramas seem to focus more on profit. Japanese dramas are very short (usually only goes up to 10 episodes) and outstanding. American dramas seem to never end. Like the OC and One Tree Hill. Even though they ended after 5 seasons I think? I lost count.

Anyway, I took advantage of this "free choice" blog just to procrastinate more. I think im going to start some of my assignments for other classes now. Good night.

Irene didn't push Clare

I believe that Irene didn't push Clare out of the window. Clare never divorced her husband, which tells readers that perhaps Clare didn't have intentions of stealing Brian away from Irene. Also, Clare seeked friendship with Irene. If she took Brian away from her, that friendship wouldn't of worked out very well.

Clare is protrayed as a beautiful African American. That could of been a threat to Irene. But Irene did say she wanted to " “feel nothing, to think nothing; simply to believe that it was all silly invention on her part”. Clare's intentions were never confirmed. Because of that, I want to believe she's innocent since she was never proven guilty.

Sex related scandal

A sex-related scandal can ruin a woman today because many people would know her privacy and she could be humiliated. A perfect example of humiliation would be when MTV news discussed sexting. When the picture was forwarded to other students, the victim in the picture may feel ashamed and upset, especially since she has to see these students in classes. Other students may also sexually harass her. It also may be difficult for that student to focus on getting good grades because of the scandal.

Sexuality between Women and Men

I do believe that men and women are held to different standards when it comes to sexuality. Cultural differences influence these standards. However, politicians, athletes and others who are observed by the media cannot get away with multiple relationships, particularly when they are married. Tiger Woods would be a good example of a male who is not viewed in the U.S. as a powerful man for sleeping with multiple women.

Pink Floyd

Since I can write about anything today, I would like to dedicate this post to Pink Floyd. This morning, I had to go to the dentist today for a root canal. I never had one before, so I didn't know what to expect. When I sat in the room waiting for the Dentist to come in, I looked around, trying to focus on anything in the room, that would help me relax and not think about the procedure. My plan didn't work out so well because the room wasnt all that comforting.

The blue wall paper was chipped, the abnormal paintings all over the walls creeped me out and the mint-scented smell of the room was nauseating. Before I could make more observations, the Dentist came in and started the procedure. His assistant turned the radio on and I closed my eyes, focusing on the lyrics to the songs playing. To my surprise, Pink Floyd started to play.

The songs, "Good Bye Blue Sky", "Comfortably Numb", "Hey you" and "Learning to fly," successfully relaxed me. Growing up, I always enjoyed listening to Pink Floyd. So when it came on the radio, that was just icing on the cake. The procedure didn't even hurt.

I'm hoping that future Dentist/Dr visits would have Pink Floyd playing on the radio. The chances are slim, but music in general definitely can calm down nerves and make someone feel so much better.

Introduction

My name is Jessica. I'm 21 years old. I'm currently attending Bergen Community College for the 2nd year. My major is Psychology and I minor in English. The reasons why i'm taking LIT-208 is because I need this class in order to graduate. I'm also interested in learning about the different roles that women take apart of in Literature. Aside from that, I also like to read during my free time. I'm willing to read anything, but I prefer suspenseful novels.
